Community 3G pitch planning application submitted
Hull KR Foundation are excited to announce the submission of a planning application for a new Community 3G pitch to be positioned at Sewell Group Craven Park.
The full size, Rugby League, and Football 3G pitch with a small spectator stand, is proposed to be located on the back of the Sewell Group Craven Park car park.
The project will be delivered by the Hull KR Foundation which is a registered charity that delivers a range of programmes and initiatives to improve the lives of generations in the local community.
Supporting the project are, Hull KR Super League Club, The Rugby Football League (RFL), Sport England and the Football Foundation.
The facility will host a range of teams including women’s all ages, learning disability and physical disability teams, local community clubs, alternative education provisions and will allow all-year-round activity to take place.
Hull KR Foundation Chief Executive Craig Shepherd said:
“We are delighted to bring this project before the planners. The facility will promote multi-sport activity in one of the most deprived areas of the country. Our local region is three times under national average for unemployment, this will help to address multiple community health inequalities and local provision constraints.
The facility will better signpost residents to regular physical activity or sport, easing the demand on health service providers.
We hope to further strengthen relationships with local amateur clubs, other community groups and charities should the project get the green light.”
Hull KR Chief Executive Paul Lakin is looking forward to making progress ahead of plans for a wider Sewell Group Craven Park masterplan and redevelopment.
“News that we have applied for planning permission is a significant milestone in our journey.
We hope to deliver a facility that will not only benefit the wider community, but our multiple clubs’ teams too from the first team, academy to our women’s programme. The city only has one full size 3G Rugby League pitch, which is based at the University of Hull, it’s time to balance that out and provide a facility for East Hull.
We have ambitions to develop the wider stadium campus over a period of time. For now, this is a significant statement of intent and the first tangible project we hope to deliver.”
Subject to relevant approvals, the 3G pitch will be open for use in Spring 2024.
