THIS-ABILITY. A PASSPORT TO SUCCESS

Learn with the Robins are delighted to be a part of the This-Ability programme in Hull working in partnership with Humber Learning Consortium.

What is This-Ability?

This-Ability is a programme aimed at supporting young people with a disability, learning disability/difficulty, long-term health/mental health condition toward obtaining sustainable employment. Through tailored training, we support young people in completing an Employability Passport and if necessary providing ongoing support during their journey into employment.

Who is This-Ability for?

The project is suitable for the following young people:

  • 18 – 29 years old
  • Unemployed or economically inactive
  • Living in Hull or East Riding
  • With a disability, learning disability/difficulty or a long-term health/mental health condition

What are the stages of the This-Ability programme?

STAGE 1: READY, WILLING & ABLE

Stage 1 is where the young person begins their journey on the This-Ability project. As part of this stage, each learner will build up evidence of progress against the 6 Core Capabilities within their employment passport. The 6 Core Capabilities are:

  1. Reliability
  2. Openness
  3. Motivation
  4. Self-esteem
  5. Resilience
  6. Awareness of labour market

STAGE 2: WORLD OF WORK

Stage 2 involves specific employability skills and experience that includes the 7 Confederation of British Industries (CBI) skills, recognised by employers in the Humber region as being essential. They are:

  1. Self-Management
  2. Teamwork
  3. Business and Customer Awareness
  4. Problem Solving
  5. Communication and Literacy
  6. Application of Numeracy
  7. Application of ICT

Our sector specific training includes opportunities to gain experience in:

  1. Retail
  2. Hospitality
  3. Warehousing

STAGE 3: GOOD TO GO

Through the work of our Job Club, young people will be supported in finding employment. The job club will support young people with:

  • Tailored job searches
  • Amending CVs
  • Writing cover letters
  • Interview skills
  • Budgeting
