Will Tate joins Castleford on two and a half-year deal with immediate effect

Hull KR can confirm the club has released Will Tate from the remainder of his contract with immediate effect to join Castleford Tigers on a two- and a half-year deal.

A junior Robin that graduated through the club’s Academy system, the 21-year-old has made 16 appearances and scored 4 tries for the Red and Whites since making his debut in late 2020 against Leeds Rhinos.

In 2023, the Scunthorpe-born utility back has struggled for game time and has been granted the opportunity to stake his claim to regular first team rugby with the Tigers.

Hull KR Head Coach, Willie Peters said: ‘Will (Tate) came through our Academy system and is a player we believe will have a successful career in Super League.

‘Will came to me and said he thinks the pathway to achieve that is better suited at another club. Although we didn’t want to lose him, we have given Will the opportunity to join Castleford and agreed to release him from the final year and a half of his contact.

Will is a quality person who has a lot to offer both on and off the field. We wish him all the best.’

Hull KR Chief Executive Paul Lakin added: ‘Will is a model professional and we are proud he’s developed through our Academy to the First Team squad.

‘However. his game time has been very limited over the last 2 years and is likely to be for the foreseeable future. Will moves to Castleford with our very best wishes.’
