Shaun Kenny-Dowall Departs Hull KR

Hull KR can confirm that former Captain and Assistant Coach, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, has departed the club with immediate effect for personal reasons.

A true club legend, Kenny-Dowall made an immense impact both on and off the field during his four seasons as a player in East Hull, helping drive Hull KR forward as a competitive force in Super League.

Having arrived in 2020, the Kiwi centre brought invaluable experience and leadership to Sewell Group Craven Park. Appointed Club Captain ahead of the 2021 season, Kenny-Dowall led from the front during a transformative period for the club, guiding the Robins to their first Super League Play-Off semi-final in 2021 and a Challenge Cup Final in 2023.

Following his retirement from playing at the end of the 2023 season, Kenny-Dowall transitioned into coaching as part of Willie Peters' backroom staff in 2024.

His passion for the game and strong connection with the squad continued to shine in his new role as a as transition development coach before becoming an Assistant Coach in 2025.

The 37-year-old was part of the staff that helped the Robin to complete a historic treble as the side captured the Betfred Challenge Cup, League Leaders’ Shield and the Betfred Super League title.

Speaking to hullkr.co.uk, Head Coach Willie Peters said: “Shaun had a highly successful playing career and finished that with four seasons at Hull KR where he helped make a difference to our club. He captained the team in a Challenge Cup Final and played a key role in helping the club grow.

He's transitioned into coaching and did a great job for us over the past two seasons. Shaun has become a good friend of mine and will be missed at the club.”

Hull KR Chief Executive, Paul Lakin added: “On behalf of the board, I'd like to thank Shaun for his fantastic contribution to the club as a player, captain and an assistant coach. His professionalism shone through from the day he joined us.

It wasn't an easy decision for Shaun to make, we fully respect his need to stay in Australia and we wish Shaun, Georgie and Kaia the very best for the future.”

Reflecting on his time at the club, Kenny-Dowall said: “Thank you to everyone for my time at the club, especially Neil (Hudgell), the Board and Willie for my opportunity into coaching.

I’m privileged and honoured to have been part of this group, this club and the East Hull Community. The Red Army have given me so many moments and memories I’ll cherish for a lifetime.

I’ll always be a supporter of the club, once a Robin. Always a Robin. I can’t wait to see where the journey takes Hull KR next.”
