Scholars edge out Bradford Bulls to get first win of U16s season

On Wednesday night, the junior Robins edged out Bradford Bulls 34-16 to secure their first win of the Scholarship season.

The game kicked off at 7pm with the 3G viewing area full of players' families and fans who had come to spectate the game.

Play began and very quickly Hull KR Scholars had scored the first try of the game from Rhys Williams who made a break from the wing to race away and score in the left hand corner. Williams then converted his own try, resulting in the score starting out at 6-0 to Hull KR.

Bradford returned promptly and crashed over for their own try on the back of a Hull KR knock-on close to the line. The Bulls converted it successfully which put the score at 6-6.

Both teams went back an forth with full sets after the try had been scored until there was stoppage of play for 20 minutes due to an injury on the field. Jake Ivory was taken off the field on the stretcher for a leg injury sustained while charging down a Bradford kick.

Once play resumed, it was Hull KR who reopened up the scoring with a flying finish from Ben Chapman and the try was quickly converted by Rhys Williams, putting the score at Hull KR 12-6 ahead of Bradford.

Bradford returned with a try towards the end of the first half but their conversion attempt missed which put the score at Hull KR 12 - 10 Bradford.

Before the end of the first half, Riley Dunn put his name on the scoreboard and made a clean break through on the right edge, speeding past the defenders to score his first try of the game. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

Half-Time : Hull KR 16 - 10 Bradford Bulls

As players got the second half underway, Evan Williams opened up the scoring for Hull KR followed by a successful touch line conversion from Rhys Williams, putting the score at Hull KR 22-10 Bradford.

The game began to get scrappy as Riley Dunn went in for his second try of the game, scoring from a Bradford error on their line and Rhys Williams again converted from out wide. The score was then 28-10 to the Robins.

Bradford snapped back into shape and capitalised on a Hull KR error to cut through the Robins; defence to score in the corner. Bradford converted their try and made the score 28-16.

The final scoring of the game came from Rhys Williams when the winger pounced on a loose Bradford pass to race away to score. Williams' converted his own try, putting the score at a final 34-16.

After being taken off with a serious leg injury before half-time, Hull KR wish injured hooker, Jake Ivory a successful recovery.
