Rugby League Royalty from Hull KR and Wigan to Present Super League Trophy at Old Trafford

This Saturday will see Hull KR legend John Millington and Wigan icon Sir Billy Boston KBE, grace the Old Trafford turf ahead of the 2025 Betfred Super League Grand Final.

The pair will bring out the Betfred Super League Trophy in front of a packed Theatre of Dreams, setting the stage for the competition’s showpiece event.
John Millington is a name that resonates across East Hull.

A true club great, Millington made 418 appearances for Hull KR in a glittering 15-year career during the club’s golden era of the 1970s and 80s.

Renowned for his toughness and work rate, the former prop forward was a cornerstone of the Robins' forward pack and played a key role in their successes in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Now in retirement, Millington remains a revered figure at Sewell Group Craven Park, and is regularly seen on match days, His involvement in Saturday’s Grand Final serves as a proud moment for the club and its community.

Joining him is one of the most iconic figures the sport has ever seen, Sir Billy Boston KBE. A trailblazer for Black athletes in British sport, Boston became a legend at Wigan during the 1950s and 60s, scoring an astonishing 478 tries in 488 appearances for the Cherry and Whites.

The Welsh-born winger helped redefine what was possible in rugby league with his powerful running and eye for the try-line. Off the field, Boston has been a tireless ambassador for the game and was knighted in 2025 for his services to rugby league and the community in Wigan.

Saturday’s pre-match moment will bring together two legends of their respective clubs as they present the Super League’s biggest prize.
