Mike Smith Documentary Coming Soon
Smithy, club captain, club president, club legend.
50 years after he made his first team debut, Hull KR TV and Eon Visual Media are proud to present a feature length documentary about Mike Smith, former club captain and appearance record holder.
Mike Smith made more appearances (489) and won more medals with Hull KR (eight) than any other player. He was a classy centre; a clever footballer who was a strong runner and a solid defender, and who always appeared calm and unflustered on the field. A selfless player, he created many tries for his wingers, and later showed his versatility, appearing regularly at off-half and loose-forward during the later stages of his career. Extraordinarily consistent and relatively free from serious injury, he never played less than 30 matches in a season between 1978/79 and 1985/86. Quite simply, he is not only one of the finest players ever to represent the club, but also first-rate as a man.
Now, you can go inside the life of Mike, the player and person, with never seen before footage, and exclusive interviews with club legends like John Dorahy, Gary Prohm, Gordon Smith and many more. Plus, hear what Mike means to current first team stars like Jez Litten, Mikey Lewis, Head-Coach Willie Peters and club owner Neil Hudgell.

Mike Smith bio:
Born in Hull on January 1958, Mike Smith made his first team debut at Barrow in March 1975. He won his first medal for Rovers when they beat St Helens in the BBC Floodlit Trophy final in December 1977.
He won the first of his three First Division championship medals in May 1979, and went on his first Great Britain tour, to Australasia, that summer, making his test debut against New Zealand in June.
In May 1980, Smith was a member of Rovers’ victorious Challenge Cup winning side against Hull FC, and the following season played in the side that won Rovers’ first Premiership title, when they beat Hull FC at Headingley.
He then played a key role in Rovers two most successful seasons, 1983/84 and 1984/85, winning back-to-back First Division titles, plus another Premiership trophy in 1984 and the John Player Cup in 1985.
He enjoyed a very well-deserved testimonial in 1985/86, and was appointed club captain in 1988. Smith made his final appearance for KR at Sheffield in March 1991, ending a glittering career in which he scored 140 tries, seventh on the club’s all-time list, and won 16 international caps. After retiring from playing, Smith remained closely connected to the club, and was appointed as club president in 2017.
