Luke Gale joins the Robins' Coaching Staff for 2026

Hull KR are pleased to confirm that 2017 Man of Steel and Challenge Cup-winning halfback, Luke Gale will join the club as an Assistant Coach on a two-year deal ahead of the 2026 Betfred Super League season.

The 37-year-old arrives from Wakefield Trinity, where he helped fire the side back to Super League during their promotion-winning 2024 season before moving into a coaching role with the club's academy.

One of Super League’s most experienced and respected playmakers, Gale brings a wealth of elite-level experience to Sewell Group Craven Park as he embarks on the next phase of his rugby league career as an Assistant Coach with the Robins.

A former England international, Gale has enjoyed a stellar playing career across the top flight, representing the likes of Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers, Bradford Bulls and London Broncos, amassing over 350 career appearances in total.

The pinnacle of his individual success came in 2017, when he was named Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel after guiding Castleford Tigers to the League Leaders' Shield and their first Grand Final appearance.

Gale later added major silverware to his résumé, kicking the winning drop-goal for Leeds Rhinos in the 2020 Betfred Challenge Cup Final against Salford Red Devils.

Speaking to hullkr.co.uk on his move into coaching with Hull KR, Gale said: “I’m massively excited to be joining Hull KR. It is an unbelievable opportunity for a young coach to join a club like Hull KR.

I’ve watched what Willie (Peters) and the club have been building over the last few seasons and the progression on and off the field has been fantastic. I’m looking forward to working to the start of pre-season and getting started with Willie and the boys.”

The Robins' Head Coach, Willie Peters, welcomed Gale’s appointment ahead of 2026: “I’m delighted to bring Luke (Gale) on board at Hull KR for next season. Luke will look after our skills program and spine while also helping with the vertical alignment of our pathways to the first team to help develop our young players into Super League players.

Luke has a smart rugby brain and will certainly help in key areas to further develop our spine and the overall skill development of our first team and academy players.”
