Hull KR sign Australian back-rower Eddie Hampson on two-year deal

Hull KR have today confirmed their second signing ahead of 2027 as Australian back-rower Eddie Hampson joins on a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old will make the move to East Hull from Townsville Blackhawks, linking up with the Robins ahead of the new campaign.

Born in Townsville, Queensland, Hampson has established himself as a consistent performer in the Queensland Cup, progressing through the ranks with his hometown club before making his senior debut for the Blackhawks in 2022.

The forward has since gone on to make 69 appearances in the competition, crossing for 21 tries.

Hampson has enjoyed an impressive 2026 campaign for the Blackhawks, scoring 11 tries in 22 appearances from the back-row while averaging 96 running metres per game.

A mobile second-rower with a strong work rate on both sides of the ball, Hampson will add further competition to the Robins’ pack under new Head Coach, Nathan Cayless.

Speaking on signing for Hull KR, Queenslander Hampson said: “I’m really excited to get over. I’ve heard so much about the club and the fans.

“From what I hear, the fans are a massive part of the club, so I want to come over, earn the team’s trust and make the fans proud too.”

On signing Hampson, incoming Head Coach Cayless added: “Eddie is an explosive second-rower who’s got plenty of speed, is a great tackle-breaker and is a try-scorer.

“He’s also a player who, more often than not, wins his collisions in the middle. He’ll definitely complement the squad we already have.

“I’ve had my eye on Eddie for a while now and he’s been performing consistently for a number of seasons.”

Eddie Hampson joins the Robins following the signing of outside back Moala Graham-Taufa earlier this week, as Nathan Cayless’ preparations for 2027 get underway.
