Hull Derby to decide Clive Sullivan MBE Trophy
This Sunday’s Hull Derby at Sewell Group Craven Park carries added significance as the Robins and the Black and Whites go head-to-head for the Clive Sullivan MBE Trophy.
Named in honour of the legendary winger, Sullivan played for both Hull KR and Hull FC, amassing over 550 appearances across both clubs. Sadly, Clive passed away due to cancer in 1985, but the Cardiff-born winger is still remembered as an iconic figure in the city and the wider rugby league community.
Clive Sullivan MBE was the first-ever black captain of the Great Britain Lions and for any national British sporting side. A World Cup winner in 1972, the codebreaker went on to win the Challenge Cup for both sides of the city in 1980 with Hull KR and 1982 with Hull FC, respectively.
Introduced in 2001, the Clive Sullivan MBE Trophy is awarded annually to the club with the highest aggregate score over the two Betfred Super League meetings between the sides.
Hull KR head into this weekend’s derby with a 14-point advantage following a 28-14 victory at the MKM Stadium back in April, meaning Hull FC would need to win by at least 15 points on Sunday to claim the trophy.
The presentation of the Clive Sullivan MBE Trophy will take place on the pitch after the full-time whistle, with Clive’s wife, Ros Sullivan, presenting the trophy to the winning team.
