Frankie Dearlove on Life at Hull KR

Frankie Dearlove on Life at Hull KR

Hull KR Academy and Reserves' second-rower, Frankie Dearlove spoke to hullkr.co.uk on his progress through the Robins' pathways and his battle on two fronts for the Academy an Reserves.

Frankie reflected on Hull KR Academy's season so far, having recorded five wins in their nine fixtures so far:

“At the start of the season we were going really well, we had a really good few wins. The first derby especially was a great experience for us all and we loved it so much but now we’ve hit a bump in the road with losses against Warrington, Huddersfield and Wakefield. We just need to get back onto the field and get back on track.”

Speaking on what he and the team have learned, Frankie said:

“We’re really trying to push each other in training, hitting each other hard and really pushing well and we’re working harder at training so that we work harder and get results on the field. We’ve learnt that losing isn’t always a bad thing, you can learn a lot of lessons from it. We’ve managed to learn what we’re not great at and we can take away from these lessons and use them to improve not just myself but also our team.”

Reflecting on getting the opportunity to play for the Reserves as well as the Academy side, Dearlove commented:

“It really means a lot. Knowing that I’m doing well and I’m getting the opportunity to push myself further and play with the reserves' boys - it’s a great level to play at. Playing at that higher level makes you the best person and player that you can be.”

Frankie also had the opportunity to train with the First Team players earlier this month and said:

“It’s incredible. I feel so proud of myself and I never normally do! Knowing that I’ve made that lasting impact on the coaches and it meaning I get to train with the first team is incredible.

“I’m just trying to get all of the knowledge and information out of the first team as best I can whilst I train with them because they are the best at what they do for a reason, I can use it to not only better myself but use what I’m learning from them to implement it into the Academy lads too.”

Hull KR Academy have five fixtures remaining (three to play at Sewell Group Craven Park) and Frankie Dearlove knows how important it is to enjoy the remaining fixtures:

“My main aim is to play as many games as possible and make sure that when I enjoy when I’m playing. If you enjoy when you’re playing, you’ll always play your best and that’s one of the most important parts of playing.”

Hull KR Academy’s next fixture is Salford Red Devils Academy (A) on the 26th of July, with their next home fixture being against Castleford Tigers Academy at Sewell Group Craven Park on the 9th of August.
