Drew Docherty excited to follow on from brother and captain Scotland U16s

Hull KR Scholarship player, Drew Docherty will head north of the border tomorrow to captain Scotland’s U16s against England Community Lions, two years on from his brother and Hull KR Academy player, Cameron doing the same.
The young front-rower has been part of an in-form Hull KR U16s side, with the junior Robins winning all four games so far in their Scholarship season.
Tomorrow, Scotland U16s will face-off against England Community Lions at Cambuslang RFC on the outskirts of Glasgow at 12pm. The game will see players from the community game across England and Scotland face-off. Last year, the Lions secured a 36-10 victory last year in Wigan over the young Bravehearts.
In 2022, Drew’s brother Cameron captained the side against England Community Lions at Dalkeith RFC, close to Edinburgh.

Speaking on the honour of captaining Scotland U16s, Drew said: ‘It’s an honour to get picked for my country and lead the lads out on Saturday. I’m really looking forward to it.
‘My Granddad is the Scottish side of our family, it’s really special to do him proud and play for my heritage.
‘I’ve heard the England Lions have a big team and we’re looking forward to the challenge, we’ve put a lot of preparation in on our side. It helps massively being with Hull KR and having the preparation we do and getting advice from Matt Wilson.
‘It’s a pleasure to play for both (Hull KR and Scotland), I’ll be bringing some of the things I’ve learned from Hull KR into Scotland’s camp to help us out there.
‘It’s massive being able to play in an international game, it feels like it’s a step up to a league game and it will bring the best out of me and both sets of players. I’ll look to take that momentum back with me to Hull KR.
‘We play Wigan in out next game later in June. I’m looking forward to me and the Hull KR boys heading over there to face them and hopefully keep our good form up.’
