Danny Ward departs Hull KR
Hull KR can confirm Assistant Coach, Danny Ward has departed the club to take up a new opportunity within the sport.
A former player, Ward previously played for the Robins throughout their inaugural Super League season in 2007 before finishing his playing career in London with Harlequins RL. The 45-year-old rejoined the club as an Assistant Coach before the 2024 Betfred Super League, focusing on the side’s defence.
Ward was part of Willie Peters’ coaching team that helped guide Hull KR to their maiden Betfred Super League Grand Final in 2024 before an historic treble one year later with the Robins lifting the Betfred Challenge Cup, the League Leaders’ Shield and finally, winning the 2025 Super League Grand Final.
Known for his detail, energy and defensive focus, Ward has left a lasting impact on the squad both on and off the field.
Speaking on his departure, Danny Ward said: “What a club. It’s a special group of people at Hull KR and add that to the success we’ve had this year. It’s been an unbelievable two years for me.
Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. I’ve decided to move back down to London to be closer to my family. My daughter and wife have been down there for the last two years and they sacrificed a lot for me to go and achieve the things I have at Hull KR. Now it’s time to go back and be closer to them.
It was a really tough choice, because it’s been amazing. I’ve loved every second of being back at Hull KR with the staff, players and the fans. Now it’s time for a different challenge.”
Hull KR Head Coach, Willie Peters paid tribute to Ward’s contribution: “Danny played a key role in helping us achieve a treble this year and making a Grand Final last year. He’s a quality person and he did a great job as our defence coach.
Thank you to Danny for his contribution at Hull KR and wish him and his family all the best. Wardy will always be a friend of the club.”
