Litten insists that the Robins can spoil the party for St Helens

Jez Litten insists that the Robins can spoil the party for St Helens tomorrow if they turn up with the right attitude. Saints’ captain and hooker, James Roby will become the record appearance maker in Super League when he takes to the field at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Sunday.

However, his opposite number  Litten says that KR can cross the Pennines in a confident mood and put a dampener on the celebrations: “Roby is a legend and he’s had an unbelievable career. He’s been a great player, but on Sunday, we’ll be focusing on what we can do and hopefully spoil his party.

“Saints are a well-drilled, disciplined side who will strangle you if you don’t give your best performance. We will give them the respect they deserve, but we have to go with the belief that we can win. Our win against Salford has given us confidence.

“Two years ago, we took Saints to golden point at their place and last year, even though we were nilled, our attitude in defence was excellent and they took a few penalties and kicked a drop goal, which showed how well we defended. We’ve given them a good game in the past and if we turn up with that attitude to defend once more, we can do so again.

“We’re always confident we can win and we never go into games already beaten, Tony drives that into us.”

Litten was last month announced in Paul Anderson’s England Knights squad alongside teammate Mikey Lewis. He said that he looks forward to testing himself against the league leaders as he harbours full international honours.

The 24-year-old said: “It’s always an honour to represent your country. It’s the biggest thing you can do in your career and having played for England Academy in Australia, it’d be great to be able to do so again. Saints are the benchmark team and have lots of internationals, so it’d be great to test myself against them and show what I can do.

“If you don’t want to play in these games, you shouldn’t play rugby.”

Litten has formed a destructive partnership with fellow nine Matt Parcell at Sewell Group Craven Park. He said he was pleased to see the Australian sign a new deal with KR: “Matt is a big part of what we do and was part of the reason we won against Salford.

“He got us going and it was great to see him back playing. I like working with him, so I’m glad he’s signed a new deal. He’s an experienced player and it’s players like him, Skids and Kane Linnett which we need to set an example. Matt and I have a good partnership and good understanding, both on and off the pitch, usually about golf off the pitch!”
