Deighton proud of young Robins

Hull KR Academy Coach Kevin Deighton said the skills of the Wests Tigers players and their strength proved the difference in his side's trial match loss in Sydney today.

The match was played in cool conditions in 3 x 25 minute periods with no goal kicks taken. Wests Tigers scored 13 tries to 2.

“Wests Tigers were outstanding with ball in hand and were good in coming out of their own yardage area,'' he said.
“I was so proud of the effort turned in by my boys. They stuck in there right till the very end. I think the game against Wests Magpies SG Ball side on Tuesday took it out of them. No excuses but every man stood up.

“Kristian Bell was very, very good. He is a fine player who has been training with the first grade team. We have high aspirations for him. Curtis Pullen also went well. He is a big minutes man who does a lot of the unseen work.

“I also thought our full-back Luke Hardcastle was outstanding. He was captain for the game and he saved several line breaks made by Wests Tigers.

“Every one of my players put their hand up. To be honest, this is the benchmark we need to be at . This is what we need to try and do. Be good like Wests Tigers were with ball in hand.

“We were not afraid to put our bodies in front but the size and physique of some of the Wests Tigers forwards told in the ends. We are a little bit busted after playing 160 minutes of rugby league in 3 days.”
